Mission Possible Or "heckuva job".

Before I had even read this * (Don't Blame Bush, by Paul Krugman), the reference in the debate came to mind,(the Jack Bauer moment) where the Republicans jumped on the idea that things are solved "above the law" as in the show "24". Just after September 11th, Bush took a swipe at the "Hollywood types" suggesting that they be more helpful with their creativity and come up with some scenarios to fight terrorism. But they are so culturally illiterate that they must not even watch the old shows that were already "out there"(X-Files) not to mentiion, Mission Impossible, and miss the fact that they are not only fiction but they rely on the presumption of having the intelligence and continuing investigations. Or are they? They are probably some of the characters in those shows. Not only is Jack Bauer just another North or Liddy, but Cheney and Rove are no "Briggs and Phelps", let alone the idea that their cast of characters are limited by loyalty to ideology over talent or principles.

I have been busy with some business of my own, ( I will have to catch up on your email later) but have not let alone work in this area which I will send under separate cover, retitled "Mission Possible".

Mission Impossible?

Recent ponderings:
those that can't don't
let the good be the enemy of the better.

In context there is some anachronism in the foundations. As for the building blocks above, the clash is contemporary but need not be. Oh what a Roar Shack, that some don't ponder.

High Road or Low Road?

and then there is the Bridge to Nowhere.
Family matters! But country first?
Enough! I will have to look back to see if I am off track.
The Family Values Party seems to have vetted family as an issue.
But have they vetted freedom? Freedom of information? Not to mention freedom of speech? The media plays a huge part in this, but which side are they on?
Does freedom have a side? Does information?

Of course these are just threads. That does not make them just.
But it does not mean they don't need to be followed a bit more.
Backgrounds matter. Or do they?

"Maverick" was a TV show and McCain admits being addicted to "24" * unless someone was joshing. "24" is the modern version of "Mission Impossible". A fantasy based too closely on reality. I have not followed Jack Bauer for some time, but just which Maverick is McCain. The gambler or the ladies man?

Both McCain and Palin have the far right lifting their spirits with their own bootstraps. Will the media vet the facts? Or does vet mean, being vetted of facts.

QCON and Flip-Flop: AN IRAN OUT

This is a quick comment on the news and a flip-flop on myself.

On Bush and Iran, there is hope **** that progress can be made.
It is all up to what Bush will accept and what Iran will agree to.
We could possibly "Trust but Verify" and any sort of solution depends on others
trusting what we can agree to. While any so-called enemy that might be "appeased" * has little record to base that on. Critics of the administration must hold them accountable and give aid to the "enemy" by assuring accountability, not politics. The big question is whether Iran can in any way accept restrictions on nuclear research while the administration accepts no accountability to international agreements. [NOT! **]

[My original point is that there is always hope that diplomacy, even tough diplomacy, can work, as long as the other side of the table has a reasonable alternative to giving in to what is unreasonable, and if there is no hope that we will be reasonable, then standing fast is just as reasonable, in the light of unreason. While I am not charging unreason, just not open *** reason, while we find it hard to find reason on the other side.]
